Webinar on Avian Influenza on the occasion of World Zoonoses Day 2021 organized by ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad 

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad organized a webinar on Avian Influenza on the occasion of World Zoonoses Day on 6th July 2021. ICAR-DPR is celebrating, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence by organizing a series of lectures of eminent personalities. Dr. R. N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR chaired the session and gave suggestions to minimize the impact of Avian Influenza on the poultry sector as well as on human health.  Dr. J. M. Kataria, former Director, ICAR-Central Avian Research Institute delivered a talk on “Avian Influenza: is still to be considered as a significant threat for public health?”. He highlighted the various subtypes of the Avian influenza virus and its zoonotic potential. He narrated the impacts of past avian influenza pandemics such as Spanish flu, Asian flu, Hong Kong flu, Russian flu etc. The possible means of avian influenza transmission from wild birds to domestic birds and humans was explained. Importance of surveillance of both HPAI and LPAI in rural poultry, commercial poultry, wild birds and live bird market emphasized in his talk. The webinar is coordinated by Dr. M. R.Reddy and Dr. Vijay Kumar, DPR, Hyderabad. A total of about 130 participants (researches, academician, industry person and students) from different parts of the country participated in the webinar through Zoom meeting and Facebook live.
