KRITAGYA- A National level Hackathon on Precision and Economical Animal Farming

Indian Council of Agricultural Research under its National Agricultural Higher Education Project and with the support of its Animal Science Division is organizing Hackathon 2.0 ‘’KRITAGYA on promoting ‘Innovations for Precision and Economical Animal Farming’. 

 

Increasing drudgery in animal farming, precise predictions of livestock and poultry diseases, lack of technology intervention in disease reporting and delay in disease diagnosis, unavailability of suitable technologies in animal transportation etc. are some of emerging challenges faced by livestock sector in recent decade. India is at a point where it needs to not only find ways to promote technology enabled livestock management but also ensure effective adoption of such emerging technologies. 

 

KRITAGYA explains: KRI for Krishi meaning AgricultureTA for Taknik meaning Technology and GYA for Gyan meaning Knowledge. Students, faculties and innovators/entrepreneurs from any university / technical institution across the country can apply and participate in the event in the form of a group. This group will comprise of maximum 4 participants, with not more than one faculty and / or more than one innovator or entrepreneur. Participating students can collaborate with local start-ups, students from technology institutes and can win up-to INR 5 Lakhs. The registration for event will be starting from 15th September 2021 onwards.

During 2020-21, NAHEP in association with Agricultural Engineering Division of ICAR organized Hackathon 1.0 to promote the innovation in Farm Mechanisation. The event witnessed immense response across the country where more than 784 teams i.e., ~3,000 participants actively involved in the event. At national level, out of 25 shortlisted teams, 4 teams were awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 9 lakhs for  KRITAGYA AgTech Hackathon 2020-21.  This event is also extending the support to winners for further development in their concept propositions, its scalability and future plan in collaboration with Agri Business Incubators, MSMEs and other investors through support of ICAR. 

ICAR commenced National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) with the assistance of World Bank (WB) in November 2017.  The overall objective of NAHEP is to support participating Agricultural Universities (AUs) and ICAR in providing more relevant and higher quality education to the students.

 

Taking forward the vision of our Hon’ble PM through National Education Policy-2020, this event will give an opportunity to the students / faculties / entrepreneurs / innovators and others to showcase their innovative approaches & technology solutions to promote innovation for Precision and Economical Animal Farming in India. Such initiatives under NAHEP along with Animal Science Division of ICAR will also help in enhancing the learning capabilities, innovations and disruptive solutions, employability and entrepreneurial drive-in livestock sector, and hence will boost the adoption of technology enabled solutions in the country
