150th Birth Anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma GandhiGandhi Jayanti is celebrated on 2nd October every year to mark the birth anniversary of the most prominent leader of the Indian Independence struggle. Popular for his non-violent movement, the purpose of this day is to honour the iconic leader. Gandhi considered non-violence to be a philosophy, a principle and an experience based on which it is possible to build a better society.

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research celebrated 150th Birth Anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi from 26.9.2020 to 2.10.2020. A number of activities were conducted on this occasion like conduction of online expert lecture on “Mahatma Gandhi and his views on Environment” by Dr. V. Raghupathy, Prof. and Head, Department of Political Science & Development Administration, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Tamil Nadu on 26.9.2020 through Google Meet. Besides this, many other activities were conducted like painting and essay competitions involving school children, quiz competition among staff of institute, Swachhta related activities by staff members and also participation by farmers in relation to enhancing Agriculture produce. Tree plantation program in the campus was also conducted on this occasion. On the concluding day of the function, the winners of different competitions were awarded with prizes. The Chief Guest of the concluding function, Prof. Ramasubramaniam, Consultant World Bank, delivered a lecture on “Mahatma Gandhi’s views on Agriculture/Swachhata”. Director, ICAR-DPR, Dr. R. N. Chatterjee delivered presidential address during the function. The function was co-ordinated by Dr. R. K. Mahapatra and Dr. S. P. Yadav.
