DAPSC programme at Inturu village, Andhra Pradesh

A program was organised by ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad under the Development Action Plan for Schedule Castes (DAPSC) scheme at the Inturu Village, Amruthalur Mandal, Guntur Dist., Andhra Pradesh on 21 & 22 December, 2021. An onsite training programme was conducted for the SC beneficiaries on backyard poultry farming. The local body representatives participated in the program and appreciated the efforts of the Directorate in organizing such a programme in their village which helps to improve the livelihoods of the poor and landless beneficiaries. The farmers were elaborated on the role of improved backyard chicken varieties in alleviating malnutrition in children, elderly people, pregnant and lactating women. The role of backyard chicken as a entrepreneurship to rural youth is also emphasised. The different managemental practises to be adopted in rearing the improved chicken varieties for better productivity and economic returns are explained to the beneficiaries. A base line data survey was also conducted to evaluate the living standards of the beneficiaries. Under the programme, 600 birds of Gramapriya chicken, 500 kgs of feed, 100 waterers and 100 feeders were distributed along with 100 night shelters to 100 beneficiaries. The programme was attended by Dr. A.Kannan, Dr. Santosh Haunshi and Dr. M. Shanmugam of the Directorate and Dr. Chandrasekar Reddy, VAS of the Mandal. The role of Swachtha for a healthy and prosperous life is also discussed with the villagers. The programme was coordinated by Dr. K.S. Rajaravindra, Senior Scientist of this Directorate.
