Research-Extension-Farmers Interface Meeting Organized for Poultry Farmers
ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad, in collaboration with the AICRP on Poultry Breeding Centre of P.V. Narsimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University, Hyderabad organized a one-day Research-Extension-Farmers Interface meeting on Poultry Production at the Livestock Research Station, Mamnoor, Warangal, Telangana, on 30 July 2024.
During the meeting, poultry farmers raised issues related to the requirement of disease diagnostic facilities, incidence of lice in commercial farms, the unavailability of important vaccines and their management in cold chain, disposal of dead birds, market volatility of inputs and outputs leading to heavy losses, pricing mechanisms for eggs and broilers, and about the availability of herbal Antimicrobial Growth Promoters (AGPs).
Dr. M. L. V. N. Raju, Principal Scientist, addressed issues related to poultry nutrition, while Dr. M. R. Reddy, Principal Scientist, addressed poultry health-related aspects. Dr. S. K. Bhanja, Chief Technical Officer, covered management issues raised by farmers.
Mr. Dharma Rao, President of the Poultry Farmers Association and Chief Guest of the function, discussed the process and suggested measures to fill the gaps between available technologies and those used by farmers. Dr. M. Hanumantha Rao, Associate Professor, PVNRTVU, and Dr. B. Prakash, Principal Scientist, moderated the program. Dr. Vijay Kumar, Senior Scientist, coordinated the meeting. About 110 poultry farmers, officers from the State Veterinary Department, officers from PVNRTVU, and other stakeholders attended the meeting, which concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. U. Rajkumar, Head, Division of PG&B, DPR Hyderabad.
