DAPSC program at Chengalpattu district (TN)

ICAR-DPR distributes Aseel birds and inputs to SC families of Valluvapakkam and Kayanallur villages of Chengalpattu district (TN) under the DAPSC program

On 26th April 2022, ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad distributed Aseel birds and other inputs to SC families of Valluvapakkam and Kayanallur villages in Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu as part of the DAPSC programme. The programme aims to improve the livelihood and nutritional security of SC families through backyard poultry farming. Different inputs for backyard poultry rearing including the Aseel birds (500), and feed (500kgs) were distributed to 50 farmers of Valluvapakkam village in Madhurandakam Block to establish small and sustainable backyard poultry units. A total of 50 SC farmers of Kayanallur village from Chithamur block were also provided with Aseel (500) grownup birds, and feed (500kgs). The beneficiaries received brief training on rearing birds under backyard farming. The negative impact of protein and micronutrient deficiencies on the health and welfare of marginalised communities were explained and highlighted the importance of eating eggs and meat for improving nutritional status and immunity. Queries of the farmers were answered by the scientists. Elected representatives and officials of both the panchayats actively participated in the programme. Dr A Kannan, Principal Scientist, Dr. M. Shanmugam, Senior Scientist and Dr. K.S. Raja Ravindra Senior Scientist participated in the programme. Dr. M. Shanmugam, Senior Scientist coordinated the programme.
